How To Use Quilling Board With Pins

I know information technology'due south fourth dimension to revamp and give my newspaper quilling lath a makeover when I have to start editing my tutorials for all the pinholes around the designs I am making!

I was starting a new projection a few days ago and thought I better fix upwardly my board offset, and I might as well take photos to prove you how I do it!

I have actually had this aforementioned quilling board for 18 years!!  I bought it in my outset year of college, when I was 18 years onetime.  Talk about long lasting!  It however has a lot of life left in information technology likewise.  I like it because it is a nice big size.  I usually have a few projects going on the board at the same time when it is jewelry.

So here is my board when it's fourth dimension to fix it up.  It is Full of pinholes.  It too has glue blobs, pen scribbles, etc. in diverse spots.

Outset I take off the plastic cover, and remove the white pinholed papers.  Now it looks all bare!  If y'all wait closely at information technology y'all tin all the same see the pinholes in the corkboard.  I take some large holes on the edge because I repeatedly utilize the aforementioned holes to shop my pins. All the other holes around the lath are smaller.  The lath is even so strong yet flexible, and has not chipped apart or anything, and then information technology's definitely skilful quality corkboard!

Time to gear up information technology up!  First I trim 2 pieces of paper, 1 for each side of the board (that fashion, when one side is too messed upwardly yous can only turn it over and use the other side before having to fix up the lath again!)

And so slide the board (with the paper on each side) into a canvass protector.  It can exist any quality – the thinner ones are actually easier than the heavy duty ones since you have to be able to poke a pin through it.  But if all you have around the house are the heavy duty ones, those will work as well.  You could besides only pin a sheet of wax paper or any type of plastic sail on summit of the lath, but I've institute the sheet protector the easiest matter to utilise!

All suited upward!  Notice how the sheet protector is a bit too long, though.

Looking for a quilling cork workboard?
This i from Lake City Craft is the one that I take.  I similar the size! This is too available at Custom Quilling.

this i is from Quilled Creations and my daughter, Svara, uses this one.  The grid on it is very handy! You'd have to utilize smaller sheet protectors for it, though. The board is too available at Custom Quilling.

This 1 has a dense foam lath with a nice guide, is a prissy large size (a regular size sheet protector will work), and comes with a removable circle sizing guide that you can choose to place on summit of the board or not. This is also bachelor at Custom Quilling.

You don't even have to buy something specially for quilling – whatsoever cork board will do. But make sure it is thick enough! My workboard is 3/8″ thick. If it is thinner than that, you adventure the pins poking out the backside besides often. Ouch! It is tricky to buy online because you usually have to buy a lot. This double pack from Elmer's looks like a good deal – you can salve ane to make large designs with, and cut the other one up for several smaller boards. If you accept friends who are new to quilling this is a not bad way to share cork to brand boards!  Y'all tin can cheque in your local craft and stationary shops likewise to see what they have.  Just pay attending to how thick it is!
